Category: EDM wires

Wire eroding is a forming manufacturing process (cutting process) which works according to the principle of spark eroding. It is also known as electroerosion machining, wire cutting. A thin, continuous wire from EDM-TEC serves as the processing electrode.

The development of EDM wire has progressed rapidly in recent years. Whereas only copper wires were used in the early days of wire erosion in 1960, brass wires were already used in Japan in the mid-1970s. In 1979, Charmilles developed the first zinc-coated wire, which was continuously improved in the following years. The first gamma phase wires have been developed since the 1990s and wires with cracking surfaces were also developed in 1997 and used for the first time from 2000. Due to the continuous further development of gamma wires with cracking surface, with today's products we achieve a multiple of the cutting speed than at the beginning of wire erosion. At the same time, the cutting accuracy and the surface quality achieved have improved enormously and are out of all proportion to the performance of copper or brass wires.

Of course the company EDM-TEC oHG has the complete portfolio of erosion wires !

  • Brass bright in CuZn 36, CuZn 37 or CuZn 40, with different tensile strengths, diameters and on all common DIN coils.
  • Hitachi Wires from Japan wires with zinc coating, according to Cobra Cut A from different manufacturers
  • SWX wire from Dahmen
  • Gamma phase wires like Gamma brass and Gamma Z exclusive in Germany and Hungary
  • Hybrid Puma and Hybrid Leo (Gamma wire with cracking surface) also exclusive in Germany and Hungary.
